While 2018 favoured an edgier palette, this year’s hues are all about balancing the mental demands of our busy lifestyles with calming, rejuvenating or indulgent decor in the home. According to some of the major paint brands, 2019 seems to be taking a more mindful approach to colour. There are many inspiring ways we can embrace these new fashions in our domestic dwellings and beyond.
Scott Anson Painters and Decorators Ltd. is an established family-run painting and decorating service which pays close attention to market trends such as predictions from Dulux. Dulux has forecast that the more common paint theme of 2019 will be ‘Filter’, drawing on the idea of blocking out distractions via four main colour schemes. ‘Repair’ seeks to take inspiration from nature with a focus on greens and browns. The woodland shades of 2019 move away from botanical trends towards the warmer, earthier tones of mushroom and fern.
Using soft colours to promote wellness is the focal point of the ‘Wholeself’ palette. These tones seek to create a calm, distraction-free environment using mindful hues such as subtle shades of grey to create a subdued, introspective background.  This colour scheme aims to support tranquillity in the home.

Elegance and timelessness are the focus of ‘Legacy’. Favouring strong tones of reds, purples and blues, this scheme can really energise a space with its rich colours. Deep berry reds have cosy and comforting qualities which can infuse vibrancy, warmth and life. Rich muted purples were such a favourite of 2018 that Pantone named Ultra Violet its colour of the year. The popularity of this energy inspiring colour has extended into 2019. Aqua is another vibrant colour, offering versatile hue changes and a sense of power.

The use of bold colours against paler ones has been coined the ‘Identity’ palette, where empowerment is displayed via the use of colour. The colour experience of 2019 has been influenced by the digital age, specifically the use of smart technology in the home. High intensity shades which emulate the edge of natural light are both attractive and familiar to the modern consumer.
