King Charles iii
King Charles iii (Charles Philip Arthur George) is King of the United Kingdom and 14 other Commonwealth realms. He became King after the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth ii in September 2022 and is set to have his coronation on 6th May 2023, the first coronation ceremony in 70 years.
The coronation emblem has been designed paying a tribute to The Kings love of nature, including multiple flowers referencing to the English rose, the Scottish thistle, the daffodil of Wales and Northern Irelands shamrock. The colours used in the emblem are red, white, and blue from the union flag.
In celebration of The Kings coronation, we have selected a few of the most associated colours to The Royal Family and picked out our favourite shades.
Colours Associated with The Royal Family –
Purple-
We often symbolise the colour purple as the most notorious royal colour. Purple has been a tie to Kings and Queens as far back as ancient times often associated with not just royalty but power and wealth. Originally down to supply and demand and it being extremely rare it was therefore a luxury and would cost a fortune to obtain purple dye described as “worth its weight in gold”.
A few of our favourite purple shades at Scott Anson Painters and Decorators Ltd are those from the Dulux Decorating Centre violet colour pallet, in particular ‘purple pout’ and ‘gentle lavender’.
Gold-
Another colour linked with royalty is gold. Gold is considered a colour of prestige and influence often associated with wealth and success. A tradition started in 1923 for the royal family to wear Welsh gold wedding rings, some of the most expensive jewellery in the world.

Blue-
The next royal associated colour is blue – in particular the obvious shade, royal blue. It is said that the royal blue hue was created for a competition to create a dress for Queen Charlotte (1744-1818) although the shades of blue associated with the name have changed over time. Royal blue in colour psychology is depicted as trustworthy and reliable. Other shades of blue which are less known versions of royal blue are ‘Queen blue’ a medium tone version of royal blue and ‘imperial blue’ a darker shade much closer to navy.
