1 in 4 people die from heart and circulatory disease. The British Heart Foundation funds world class research into these diseases and their risk factors; heart disease, stroke, vascular dementia, diabetes, they are all under their microscope. Research has given the power to restart hearts, fix arteries in tiny babies and give someone a heart they weren’t born with but work doesn’t stop there. Their research is the promise of future preventions, treatments, and cures.
Jodie Shepherd, from the British Heart Foundation said the below:
Since launching in 1961, the BHF has funded ground-breaking discoveries to save and improve lives. However, the last year has been one of the toughest in our history. The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic meant that our investment for new research into conditions such as heart attack, stroke and vascular dementia was cut in half last year, which will ultimately delay important scientific breakthroughs.
This year we celebrate 60 years of pioneering research and we are so grateful for all our wonderful supporters who are raising vital funds for the BHF.
The pandemic may have dealt a brutal blow to our work, but together we are making this year one to remember. The support we receive from our local communities will ensure we can continue to fund our vital research to find cures and treatments for the 7.6 million people living with heart and circulatory diseases in the UK.
